P0472 Exhaust Pressure Sensor "A" Circuit Low Input

The P0472 OBD-II trouble code appears when the engine control module (ECM/PCM) detects a lower-than-expected signal from the Exhaust Pressure Sensor “A” circuit.

The sensor measures exhaust pressure and sends this information to the engine computer. The data can be used for different engine-management functions, especially on diesel engines, including EGR control, turbocharger management and DPF regeneration.

Can You Drive With P0472?

However, the code should not be ignored.

An incorrect exhaust-pressure signal can affect the way the ECM manages EGR, DPF regeneration, turbocharger operation and emissions control.

If the vehicle enters limp mode, loses substantial power or develops DPF-related warnings, the problem should be investigated promptly.

How Is P0472 Repaired?

The correct repair depends on what caused the low signal.

Possible repairs include:

  • Replacing the exhaust pressure sensor

  • Repairing damaged wiring

  • Repairing a short to ground

  • Fixing the sensor ground

  • Restoring the reference-voltage supply

  • Repairing the sensor connector

  • Cleaning a blocked pressure tube

The sensor should not be replaced automatically just because P0472 is stored.

A blocked pressure tube or damaged signal wire can produce exactly the same code with a perfectly good sensor.
