How to Remove a Stuck Oil Filter: Methods, Tips, and Safety Precautions

Changing the engine oil is one of the most basic maintenance procedures on a car. In theory, removing the old oil filter should be just as simple as draining the oil and installing a new filter.

In practice, however, an oil filter can become extremely difficult to remove.
