P0454 Evaporative Emission Control System Pressure Sensor/Switch Intermittent
The P0454 diagnostic trouble code means the engine control module (ECM/PCM) has detected an intermittent or unstable signal from the EVAP system pressure sensor or pressure switch.
The EVAP system is designed to keep gasoline vapors contained inside the fuel system and then route those vapors into the engine to be burned. To make sure the system is sealed and operating correctly, the ECM monitors pressure or vacuum inside the EVAP system.
With P0454, the problem is that the pressure information is not remaining stable or believable.
The signal may work correctly most of the time and then suddenly drop out, jump to an unexpected value, or become implausible.
This is why P0454 can sometimes be difficult to diagnose: the vehicle may drive perfectly normally while the fault is occurring only occasionally.

This approach is much more effective than simply replacing the pressure sensor.
The correct way to repair P0454
P0454 should be treated as a diagnostic clue rather than a parts-replacement instruction.
Start with the sensor signal and determine whether it is genuinely intermittent. Then work outward through the electrical circuit, connector, wiring, pressure connection and EVAP components.
The final repair might be a pressure sensor, but it could also be a damaged wire, corroded connector, poor ground, purge valve, vent valve, EVAP leak or another system fault.
Once the underlying problem is repaired, the EVAP pressure data should remain stable and respond logically to changes in purge and vent operation. Only then can you be confident that P0454 has been properly resolved.
