P0224 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch "B" Circuit Intermittent

P0224 is an OBD-II diagnostic trouble code that indicates an intermittent problem in the Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch “B” circuit.

If several sensors report problems simultaneously, a shared electrical problem may be more likely than several independent sensor failures.

Study the freeze-frame data

Freeze-frame data can show the conditions present when the ECM detected the intermittent fault.

  • Engine RPM

Why a Simple Multimeter Test May Miss P0224

Intermittent faults are particularly good at hiding from conventional tests.

A sensor may measure correctly while the vehicle is stationary.

The wiring may also show continuity when there is no movement.

But once the vehicle vibrates, the harness moves, or the sensor reaches a certain position, the signal may momentarily disappear.

Does P0224 Mean the Accelerator Pedal Is Bad?

Not necessarily.

That makes the connector, harness, sensor signal, reference voltage, and ground just as important as the sensor itself.

Rather than starting with an expensive component replacement, the diagnosis should answer a more useful question:

Once that event can be reproduced and the electrical path is tested, the correct repair is usually much easier to identify.
