P0006 Fuel Shutoff Valve "A" Control Circuit Low
Imagine the engine is running normally, but the Check Engine Light suddenly comes on. There may be no obvious change in how the vehicle drives. A diagnostic scan then reveals P0006.
The code does not mean that the engine has necessarily lost fuel pressure or that the fuel pump has failed.
Instead, the ECM has detected that the electrical control circuit for the “A” fuel shutoff valve is showing a lower-than-expected electrical condition.
The important word here is “Low.”
P0006 is primarily an electrical circuit diagnosis. The ECM is seeing a circuit voltage or control condition that is below the range it expects for the fuel shutoff valve circuit.

If fuel pressure is actually low, the vehicle may have additional fuel-system codes or symptoms.
Therefore, fuel pressure should not be assumed to be the problem simply because the word “fuel” appears in the code description.

A good diagnosis begins with the vehicle's wiring diagram and the manufacturer's description of the fuel shutoff valve.
First, all stored and pending codes should be retrieved. Other electrical or fuel-system codes may reveal whether P0006 is an isolated fault.
The freeze-frame information can then show when the ECM detected the abnormal circuit condition.
After that, the technician should identify:
Which valve is “A”?
How is it powered?
How is it controlled?
What voltage and current should be present?
What does the ECM use to determine that the circuit is low?
Only after these questions are answered does electrical testing become meaningful.
Testing the Circuit

A technician may also perform a voltage-drop test or use a scan tool to command the valve if the system supports actuator testing.

Why Replacing Parts Without Testing Can Fail

But if the harness is shorted to ground, the new valve can produce exactly the same fault.
Likewise, if the connector has a damaged terminal, installing another valve will not restore proper electrical contact.
The same principle applies to the ECM. An ECM problem is possible, but it should generally be considered after the external circuit and actuator have been properly tested.
Could a Fuse Cause P0006?
Yes, depending on the circuit design.
A fuse or relay problem can interrupt or alter the electrical supply to a fuel-system actuator.
However, a completely blown fuse may produce a different electrical condition than the one the ECM expects for a “low” circuit.
This is why the actual circuit behavior should be measured rather than assuming that every electrical fault is caused by a fuse.
If a fuse is blown, the reason it failed should also be investigated. Simply installing another fuse without finding the underlying cause may result in another failure.

It can be.
If the vehicle starts normally and the only symptom is a steady Check Engine Light, the problem may not immediately leave you stranded.
