Why Does the Fuel Cap Warning Light Come On?
The fuel cap warning light or a message such as “Check Fuel Cap” can appear when the vehicle detects that the fuel tank is not properly sealed. In many cases, the first thing to check is the fuel filler cap itself, but the warning does not always mean that the cap is defective.

If the warning appears shortly after filling the tank, start with the simplest checks.
Turn the engine off and inspect the fuel cap.
