However, the seriousness depends heavily on the engine and the symptoms.

A turbocharged engine that enters limp mode or experiences significant loss of boost should be diagnosed promptly.

If the engine is running normally and only the Check Engine Light is illuminated, the vehicle may remain driveable for a limited period.

Ignoring the fault indefinitely is still not recommended.

Can You Drive With P0096?

In many cases, short-term driving is possible.

However, if you notice:

  • Severe power loss

  • Poor acceleration

  • Boost problems

  • Engine knocking

  • Rough running

  • Stalling

  • Multiple engine-management codes

the vehicle should be inspected rather than continuing to drive normally.

Does P0096 Mean IAT Sensor 2 Must Be Replaced?

No.

Is the electrical circuit stable?

Is the sensor physically installed and exposed to the correct airflow?

These questions usually provide much more useful information than simply measuring resistance once and replacing the sensor.
