P0567 Cruise Control "RESUME" Signal Malfunction

The P0567 trouble code indicates that the vehicle’s cruise control system has detected a malfunction in the RESUME signal circuit. The RESUME function is used to command the cruise control system to return to a previously stored cruising speed after the system has been cancelled, provided the vehicle conditions still allow cruise control operation.

This code does not necessarily mean that the RESUME button itself is defective. The problem can occur anywhere between the steering-wheel cruise-control switch and the module responsible for interpreting the command.

  • Brake-switch codes

  • Power supply codes

A second code can completely change the diagnostic direction.

2. Check cruise-control live data

If the scan tool provides cruise-control switch status, observe the data while pressing the RESUME button.

For example, the data may change from:

RESUME OFF → RESUME ON

when the button is pressed.

If the physical button is pressed but the scan tool never sees RESUME ON, the fault is likely somewhere in the input path before the module recognizes the command.

Is P0567 a Serious Problem?

P0567 is generally not an indication of an immediate engine or transmission failure.

The primary concern is the loss or incorrect operation of cruise control.

However, cruise-control systems are safety-related driver-assistance systems. If the system detects an abnormal control input, it may disable cruise control intentionally rather than risk responding incorrectly to a driver command.

The vehicle can often still be driven normally, but the cruise-control system may remain unavailable until the fault is corrected.

Should You Replace the RESUME Button?

Not automatically.

This is one of the most common mistakes with input-circuit fault codes.
