New Mercedes E300 Diesel Plug-in Hybrid Launched in the UK

The new Mercedes E300 diesel plug-in hybrid models have gone on sale in the United Kingdom. The Saloon version is priced at €47,700, while the more practical Estate version is available from €49,700.

The E300 is powered by the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine used in the E220d, producing 191 hp and 400 Nm of torque. In addition to the diesel engine, the E300 features an electric motor producing 121 hp (90 kW) and 440 Nm of torque, powered by a 13.5 kWh lithium-ion battery.

When driven exclusively on electric power, the E300 Saloon has an electric range of up to 55 km, while the Estate version can travel up to 51 km. The battery has a capacity of 13.5 kWh and can be fully charged in less than two hours using a 7.4 kW charger.

Drivers using a conventional household power outlet can fully charge the vehicle in approximately seven hours. Both versions have a maximum electric-only speed of 140 km/h.

Four Different Driving Modes

The new models offer four different driving modes, including the standard Hybrid mode.

Other options include E-Mode, which allows the vehicle to operate using electric power alone, and E-Save, which preserves the battery charge for a later part of the journey.

There is also a Charge mode. In this mode, the vehicle can recharge the battery while driving, allowing the battery charge level to be increased even when the car is not connected to an external charger.

With the combination of a diesel engine and an electric motor, the Mercedes E300 diesel plug-in hybrid was designed to offer both the long-distance capability of a diesel powertrain and the quiet, zero-emission driving capability of an electric motor.
