New Information About the 2019 SEAT Tarraco Has Arrived!

SEAT's new flagship SUV, the Tarraco, is preparing to become “the sportiest vehicle in its segment” with both 5-seat and 7-seat configurations. SEAT is placing increasing importance on SUV models because interest in SUVs in Europe was expected to increase by more than 25% by 2025.

From the second half of 2019, three SUV models were expected to be available in SEAT showrooms. Alongside the compact Arona and the mid-size Ateca, the seven-seat Tarraco would be offered to customers. The company was particularly expecting an increase in sales of its SUV models.

The name of the new SUV was selected through a public vote. It comes from Tarraco, one of the most important cities in ancient Spain. The remains of the city, known today as Tarragona, were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000.

SEAT has traditionally attracted a younger customer base compared with other brands within the Volkswagen Group. The company's marketing team was confident that its new SUV models would also appeal to younger buyers.

The Tarraco was available in both 5-seat and 7-seat versions and was planned to be offered with two gasoline and two Euro VI diesel engine options. The gasoline engines produced 150 hp from the 1.5 TSI and 190 hp from the 2.0 TSI. The diesel engines were offered as 2.0-liter TDI units producing 148 hp and 187 hp.

The 150 hp version could be ordered with either front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. This version was equipped with a six-speed manual transmission. The 187 hp model, on the other hand, came with four-wheel drive and a seven-speed dual-clutch DSG transmission as standard.

The 2.0 TSI engine could reach a maximum speed of 211 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 8 seconds.

As SEAT's largest vehicle, the Tarraco measured 4,735 mm in length, 1,839 mm in width, and 1,658 mm in height. The SUV had a 60-liter fuel tank, while its luggage capacity was listed as 760/700 liters depending on the seating configuration.

The Tarraco was also planned to be offered in eight different exterior colors, including white, silver, blue, and beige.

The model was offered in SE and Xcellence versions and could be further equipped with a range of additional equipment packages.

Even the entry-level Tarraco was designed to offer an extensive list of standard equipment compared with many of its competitors. With its spacious interior, seven-seat option, modern technology, and sporty design, SEAT positioned the Tarraco as an important model in its growing SUV range.
